Broadstairs, St Peter's and Kent, UK
Mockett's Wood, a stone throw away from our UK Holiday Let Astoria Lodge
(To book Astoria Lodge, follow this link to the Host and Stay website.)
We often walk through here to get to our local shops. Not an ancient woodland, but a plantation of Elm, Ash, Sycamore, Horse Chestnut, Elder, Hawthorn, Cherry and more.
Aconites and Lesser Celandine flower early in the year, and it is renowned for it's Butchers Broom, which is becoming rare in many of it's previous habitats.
Squirrels are plentiful. Wrens, Thrushes, Blackbirds, Bluetits, Long Tailed Tits, Robins, Jays, Magpies, Ringed Parakeets and sometimes even a Cuckoo can be seen or heard as you stroll through this pleasant haven!

There are many beautifully scenic and interesting coastal walks around the Isle of Thanet, which encompasses Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Broadstairs has seven main bays, namely Botany Bay, Kingsgate Bay, Joss Bay, Stone Bay, Viking Bay, Louisa Bay and Dumpton Gap.
The area has many caves in the chalk cliffs, associated with it's smuggling history.
The ever shifting Goodwin Sands were the cause of a vast amount of past ship wrecks.
Kent, known as "The Garden of England", has some wonderful places to explore. There are many quaint villages, such as Chillenden, which has a rotating windmill, some amazing buildings originating from Tudor times, and an Olde Worlde pub in the centre.
We visited Chillenden on 3rd September 2017. The Griffin's Head Pub/Restaurant hosts a vintage car rally on the first Sunday of the month, along with a large outside barbecue and live music, weather permitting of course, at least through the summer months.
