Lanzarote July 2020 - Your Questions Answered

Useful information for visitors travelling to Lanzarote - your questions answered. 

1. Will I get tested when I arrive at the airport? 

Travellers are required to undergo a 3 stage screening upon arrival. Any passengers that are suspected of possibly carrying Covid-19 will be asked to participate in a test. Each passenger will have to give details of their address and contact details during their stay, should they be required to be tracked due to contact with a possible Covid-19 case. 

2. What happens if I get or arrive with Covid-19?

Lanzarote has hotel accommodation in place to isolate any visitors with Covid-19 where they will be monitored by health professionals and can be hospitalised if required. They will not be allowed to return or leave the isolation hotel until they are clear. The hotel is paid for by the government as this hotel is only for Covid-19 positive visitors and locals to allow correct isolation. 

3. Are the beaches open? 

Yes, all the beaches are open but you are required to social distance (1.5m) between groups from the same household, apartment or hotel room group. 

4. Will the pool be open at Los Gracioseros? 

Yes, the pool is currently being renovated and should be ready to fill on 3rd July. Again, social distancing of 1.5m is required between groups. Please see July 2020 Los Gracioseros Rules for further information.

5. When do we have to use a mask or facial covering?

Whenever you can’t maintain a distance of 1.5m from someone who is not from your household, and when you enter buildings and public transport.

6. Are the hotels and hospitality establishments safe? 

Each business has been required to meet guidelines put in place by the government. You will find hand sanitiser at the entry and throughout every establishment. Staff are required to use face coverings when attending clients and health checks are in place for staff attending the customers. Local officials are checking that these practices are being carried out and also independent companies are required to check staff are following all guidelines. 

7. Are there cleaning and disinfecting protocols in place for accommodation? 

Yes. Both hotels and private holiday rentals are required to follow strict regulations to ensure the safety of guests. You will find things such as information packs and books removed from accommodation and these will be replaced by digital format.

8. Are hotels still offering all inclusive? 

Yes. There are no restrictions on all inclusive, although there are strict regulations on buffets, including hotel staff serving the clients to avoid cross contamination. 

9. Are bars and restaurants open? 

At the time of writing, 26/06/2020, there are a range of establishments open including cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. More will reopen as the tourist numbers start to increase.  

10. Can friends and family who don’t live together share accommodation?  

Yes. The regulations have now changed so that this is allowed.

11. What should I do if I suspect Covid-19 symptoms while in Lanzarote? 

Stay in your accommodation and inform your reception or property management by phone. They will inform the authorities and they will send someone to carry out testing in your accommodation or transfer you to a testing centre. In the event of an emergency you can call 112. You should find all contact numbers of interest at your accommodation. The helpline if you have no hotel reception or property manager is 900 112 061 

12. Does the general hospital have the capacity to treat tourists in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak? 

Under the regulations to allow for the tourism market to open up, the hospital is required to have sufficient hospital beds and ICU units on standby, the government has also made agreements for services to be made available in private hospitals and private laboratories to ensure normal service and the capacity for standby Covid-19 wards and testing. 

13. Can friends come to stay in your home? 

Yes.
